Day of Prayer & Fasting

In light of what is going on in our country along the lines of a racial divide and systemic issues of racial injustice, our church family is hurting. George Floyd’s murder has ignited a new spirit and the church is responding.

Only the Lord can use these circumstances to put an end to this systemic disease of racial injustice in the United State and heal our land. On Friday, June 19, we will have a Zoom prayer room open for prayer throughout the day where speakers on the hour will share, encourage, and lead us in prayer. This will also be broadcasted via calvary’s Facebook page.  Below you'll find a program for Friday, June 19, and information on how to join via Zoom.

FRIDAY, JUNE 19, 2020 – 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

THEME:  How Long, O Lord – Psalm 13

10:00 a.m.        Leaders:  Tabitha Morales and Brunel Bienvenu

                        Focus on “Complacency”

Complacency is no longer acceptable; silence is taking the side of the oppressor. The systemic disease of racial injustice will continue unless we break out of our silence.

                        Scripture:  Revelation 3: 14-22

                        Discussion and Prayer Time

11:00 a.m.        Leaders:  Sean and Beverly Quinlan

                        Focus on “Lament and Fasting”

On the day of Juneteenth, we mourn the death of George Floyd and many    black men and women who have been the victims of racial injustice.

                        Scripture Readings:  Psalm 13; Nehemiah 1: 3-4; Mathew 5:4

                        Discussion and Prayer Time

12 Noon           Leaders:  Esther Hinds Brown and Elizabeth Maynard

                        Focus on “Confession and Repentance”

The process of healing and restoration begins with confession and repentance. God calls us to confess our sins to Him and to reach others. It is after the confession that we repent of our sins against God and against fellow men made in the image of God. Therefore, acknowledging the racial injustice in our country and repenting of it are critical for healing the nation.

                        Scripture:  Mark 1: 4-5 and Luke 24:  45-47

                        Discussion and Prayer Time

1:00 p.m.          Leaders:  Fredrick Mokolo and Robert Beatty

                        Focus on “Forgiveness

Forgiveness is the first step towards rebuilding relationships, however forgiveness does not mean forgetting. Though God chose to forgive our sins in Christ and to remember them no more, for humans it is quite difficult to forget.

                        Scriptures:  Psalm 25: 8-14; Acts 13: 38-39; Ephesians:  1:7; Ephesians 4:32

                        Discussion and Prayer Time

2:00 p.m.          Leaders:  Tony and Teresa Hewitt

Focus on “Hope in the Lord”

Peaceful protests are protected by the constitution of the United States and hope for the future lies in change. Our ultimate hope is in the Lord.

Scriptures:  Lamentations 3:21-23; 1 Peter 1:20-21; Jeremiah 29:11

Discussion and Prayer Time

3:00 p.m.          Leaders: Ted and Judy White

                        Focus on “Justice”

In the absence of Justice, evil prevails. God calls us to do justice. “While justice can be used to talk about retributive justice in which a person is punished for their wrongdoings, most of the time the Bible uses the word justice to refer to restorative justice, in which those who are unrightfully hurt or wronged are restored and given back what was taken from them.”[1]

                        Scripture:  Psalm 82: 1-5, 8; Proverbs 1:3, 5, 7

Discussion and Prayer Time

4:00 p.m.          Leaders: Wale and Deola Oshodi & Sharon Shah

                        Focus on “Love

Love is both an action taken in the direction of one you care about and are devoted to, and also the measure by which you determine your actions. If we say we love and do nothing to protect that which is dear to us, that love is worthless- for it has no value to the one who is hurting or is in danger.

Scriptures:  I Corinthians 13; Psalm 4: 2-3
