Goldwater Outreach

The Goldwater Outreach is conducted by Calvary Baptist Church volunteers with the goal of encouraging the believers at the Coler-Goldwater Memorial Hospital and sharing the Gospel with the lost.
Who Attends the Service?
Most of the participants are hospital residents in wheelchairs and some are gurney-bound. Many are low-income residents that no longer have family ties or receive any visitors. Most residents have come to spend the remaining years of their lives there.
What Kind of Service is Held?
A regular Sunday morning church service with hymn singing, prayer requests and prayer and a biblical message. Frequently, personal testimonies and witnessing is offered by participants, and encouraged.
Where Does the Service Take Place?
At 2:30 PM in the Protestant Chapel at the south-end facility of Coler-Goldwater Memorial Hospital. Volunteers meet at 1:15PM in front of Calvary and head over as a team, by subway.
What Can New Volunteers Do?
Volunteers do many things; chief among them is to assist in bringing wheelchair-bound patients from their rooms to the chapel. Volunteers can be encouragers, distribute Gospel tracts and comfort patients when a kind hand is needed. Don't worry, new volunteers "learn by doing", working side by side with current members, who will share all aspects of the ministry with them.
Why Join the Goldwater Outreach?
If you have a love for people and have been seeking a way to honor and serve God, the Goldwater Outreach Ministry may be your calling. Author Francis Shaeffer defines what he calls a "Christian's badge," by appealing to John 13:35: "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." So we minister to Christians with our spiritual gifts in love, unity and kindness; and to the world, being salt and light and carrying the message of salvation to them (Matthew 5:16). Goldwater patients, Christian or not, are thirsty for this love, kindness and light, thirsty for the tracts that are handed to them, thirsty for a little conversation with someone from "the outside," who cares enough to listen to them.
How Can I Learn More About Becoming A Volunteer?
By calling the church offices and asking about participating in the Goldwater Outreach Ministry.
