Library and Resource Center
Opened in 1987, the Resource Center has a growing list of reference materials, books, and videos available for use by members and friends.
The Library and Resource Center is located on the 5th floor of the Hotel Salisbury in Room 504. Turn left and left into first recess past the Exit sign.
The hours of the Resource Center are as follows.
* Sundays (September through June): 1 to 4 p.m.
* Sunday Summer Hours (through Labor Day): 1 to 3 p.m.
* Mondays: 5 to 9 p.m. during all New York School of the Bible terms
We will be closed on the following Sundays:
* Easter Day
* Sunday of Calvary's Annual Meeting
* Mother's Day
* Memorial Day Weekend
* Labor Day Weekend
* Thanksgiving Day Weekend
* Christmas Sunday (celebrated) through the end of December
* other holidays as announced
The Library and Resource Center of Calvary Baptist Church makes its contribution to the life of our church by providing a quiet place where people can acquire comprehensive knowledge of the Bible, supplement their personal Bible study, gain insights on a variety of subjects ranging from Basic Theology to the Arts and Music to Church History to the New Age Movement, or just sit and read in peace. This brochure is designed to acquaint you with the contents and procedures of the library.
The Library and Resource Center charges a Card Fee of $10.00 for a first-time membership. Checks must be made payable to Calvary Baptist Church. A permanent library card number is issued to the new member. This card must be presented each time both to check out materials and to renew membership.
NOTE: No cards are issued to a group, e.g., STING, Sunday School, MOSAICS, etc. Even if you are checking out materials on behalf of a group, you MUST take those materials out under your own name and you will be held personally responsible for making sure that the materials are returned. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Membership privileges remain in effect for one calendar year from the date of issue. An inactive membership may be renewed any time for a $1.00 fee.
A MEMBER may check out as many as THREE BOOKS for two weeks. You may renew books for TWO more two-week periods in succession. There is no charge for checking out books.
A MEMBER may rent up to TWO VIDEOS for one week at a fee of $3.00 per video. You may renew each video for another $3.00 for ONE more week in succession.
OVERDUE FEES: Books-25 cents for each day library is open. Videos-50 cents for each day library is open.
LOST CARD FEE: A member who loses a library card may obtain a replacement for a 50 cent fee.
COPIER FEE: A small copier is available for member needs. Library and Resource Center staff will make copies for 10 cents a copy. Not more than 10 consecutive pages may be copied.
You don't have to be a library member to use our resources on premises in Room 504. However, we invite you to join and take full advantage of the opportunity that this ministry provides to better equip and inform yourself.
The Library and Resource Center has a CARD CATALOG to help you locate the book or video you need. So, if you have a TITLE in mind, but don't know the author; or an AUTHOR in mind, but can't remember the book; or interested in a SUBJECT, but don't know where to begin-if the resource is here, there is a card that will tell you where to find it.
The Library and Resource Center is staffed primarily by volunteers. Their main duty is to be there during the hours listed to assist patrons. If you are looking for a place to serve here at Calvary, the L&RC may be the place. Contact the librarian at Ext. 18 for details.
The Library and Resource Center welcomes inquiries from those who wish to donate books and other materials to the collection. However, due to limited space, L&RC prefers that potential donors call before bringing materials in. Contact the librarian at Ext. 18 for details.
Our resources-chiefly books and videos -have to do with Christianity. Therefore, our books are categorized using the Dewey Decimal System's 200-299 Religion classification. Below are listed the major categories according to classification number printed on each book's spine.
