The Council of Missions is an elected board of men and women designed to oversee and carry out the missions program of Calvary.
The Council's efforts to fulfill the Great Commission Jesus gave His disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28: 19,20a). To this end, we sponsor the following programs:
- October Annual Missions Conference to motivate our church and increase member participation in missions.
- Special guest speakers and missionaries provide updates on the status of missions locally and abroad. Post-conference follow-up classes are held for those who attend the conference and express a desire to become more involved
- Worldwide Prayer for the Persecuted Church. In November, Calvary joins other churches nationwide and worldwide in prayer for Christians living in countries where they are persecuted and often killed for their faith.
- Thanksgiving Baskets. As an outreach to the community, members of the church identify families in need. Along with a basket of food, efforts are made to minister to spiritual as well as physical needs.
- Annual Prayer Summit. Held in January, the prayer summit provides opportunity for church members and friends to pray together and individually about issues. A theme serves as a focal point for brief messages, musical selections and prayer sessions.
- Short-term Missions Program. Each summer the Council of Missions offers a combined medical outreach and Christian education program as well as a math and literacy enhancement initiative. This Adult Short-Term Missions Group has traveled abroad and within the United States to address the spiritual and education needs of adults and children.
- Seder, Purim, Sukkoth and Passover outreaches to the Jewish community in cooperation with Jewish believers in Jesus.
- Concerts of Prayer to address the demands faced by educators in public, private and Christian schools. This forum unites efforts to deliver the best services to children.
- Seminars target areas of the world for specific missions concerns. These seminars are designed to inform and encourage the congregation's support to the targeted work.
