1) Do you offer Federal Financial Aid for students?
The New York School of the Bible does not offer Federal Financial Aid for students. We are not a nationally accredited school; therefore we do not receive any Federal funds to distribute for financial aid. If a student needs financial assistance to help with the cost of tuition, the student may pick up a form from the NYSB office to submit to his/her local church. The student may petition his/her church to help with the cost of tuition.
2) Can I become an ordained minister through classes at your school?
We do not ordain or certify anyone through the New York School of the Bible. Courses taken at NYSB will not help students in the legal process of becoming ordained. The school is designed to offer continuing adult education. Although the subject matter and instructors are similar to study at a seminary, the amount of required course work is less than what is require at an accredited seminary or university.
3) Will I earn a degree by completing the certificate program?
The New York School of the Bible is not a nationally accredited institution; therefore we do not present degrees. Students will not be able to earn Associates, Bachelors or Masters degrees from the New York School of the Bible. The certificate program was designed by the school's faculty and founders to provide an overview of study in Bible knowledge, Christian theology and ministry application. For students who want to learn more about the Bible, but are unsure of where to start, the certificate program is a great guideline. Some Christian schools in the immediate New York City area know of NYSB and might, on an individual basis award transfer credit for some courses taken at NYSB. In these cases, it is up to the student to negotiate with the school they will attend. In general, courses taken at NYSB will not transfer to nationally accredited institutions.
4) How can I get a full catalog of courses?
The NYSB catalog for the Fall and Spring courses will be printed and mailed out in August. All students who have taken courses within the previous 5 years, or have requested to remain on the active mailing list will receive a catalog in the mail, as well as others who have requested a catalog and been added to the mailing list. If you would like to receive a catalog after the initial printing in August, you may call or drop by the school office and request a catalog during NYSB Office Hours You may also request a catalog by email; please include full name and address. The catalog includes a registration form, which can be used to register for any quarter in the Fall and Spring.
The NYSB Summer catalog will be printed and mailed to all on the mailing list in late April or early May and will contain schedule information as well as course descriptions for June and July summer sessions. If you would like to receive the Summer catalog and are not on the NYSB active mailing list please call or drop by the school office and request a catalog. The Summer catalog will also include a registration form, which can be used to register for June or July courses.
5) When will I receive a certificate for each course I finish?
Certificates are awarded only upon completion of a set of courses for a certificate program. No certificates are awarded for individual courses. However, grade reports will be mailed to students two or three weeks after the final class period in the quarter. The office must wait for grades to be submitted by all professors before grade reports can be processed. The office makes every effort to mail grade reports to students as soon as possible. Some professors give their students' graded work to the NYSB office along with their final grades. The NYSB office keeps these graded papers (exams, assignments, etc) for approximately eight weeks to be picked up by the originating student. Graded papers are kept in the office on the 5th floor in a large blue file folder, organized by last name, accessible to students any time the office is open. After eight weeks, the papers will be discarded. Students with papers held in the office will receive notification along with their grade report.
6) How can I obtain a copy of my NYSB transcript?
Students can obtain an unofficial NYSB transcript at no charge in person at the NYSB office or over the phone. If in person, the transcript can be printed and given to the student immediately. If the request is made over the phone, the transcript will be mailed out the next day. For official transcripts, students must submit a written request to the NYSB registrar including: the address where the transcript should be mailed, to whose attention and payment of the $3 transcript fee. An unofficial copy of the transcript will also be mailed to the student's address on record when an official transcript is sent.
7) When can I register for classes?
Registration for Fall and Spring courses begins after the NYSB catalog is printed in August. Registration for Summer courses begins in May after the Summer catalog is printed. Pre-registration for any quarter is always available. Students who pre-register at least 5 full business days before the start of the term will receive a $5 discount on their total tuition cost. Students may register for courses up to the second week of class in any quarter; however, to receive the best price students should register for courses as early as possible. When registering, students will pay $70 for the first course and $40 for each additional course each time they register. Students will receive the best deal on tuition by registering for all the courses they would like to take in all four quarters at the beginning of the year. Please see Registration and Tuition Information for more details.
8) If I have lost my free course vouchers, can I still get a free course the next time I register?
If you have lost vouchers, you need to contact the registrar who check records to verify receipt of vouchers. Vouchers lost but not yet used, if not expired, will be honored. You must confirm this with the registrar.
9) Can I sit in on one of the classes as a guest before I register?
Guests are welcome. Students may sit in for one class period as a registered guest free of charge before registering for the course. However, please keep in mind that registration for all courses is closed after the second week of the quarter. If you plan to visit a class, please do so during the first week so that you may register by the second week. Students may also bring a friend as a guest to their course for one class period. Students must obtain a guest pass for themselves or a friend from the registrar.
10) Is child care provided during the classes?
Child care is not provided and we ask that parents not bring their children to class. Thank you.
