306 The Dynamics of Spiritual Gifts
This course will examine both revelatory and non-revelatory spiritual gifts. One major factor that has divided the Evangelical community from the Pentecostal and Charismatic communities is the duration of certain spiritual gifts. Most Evangelicals argue that the revelatory gifts, such as prophecy and tongues, ceased after the Apostolic Age. Modern-day Pentecostals and Charismatics argue for the continuation of the revelatory gifts. Both sides present compelling exegetical arguments to support their positions. This course will examine all sides of this most controversial issue. Students will read and discuss papers presented by both Evangelical and Pentecostal/Charismatic scholars. This is a complex issue that requires careful consideration. We will also explore the ways in which one can discover his or her spiritual gift.
