272C Law vs. Grace in the Early Church
The early church was not a monolith. Diverse points of view over a number of issues were common in the first century. The most hotly contested issue was over Gentile conversion to the new faith. The Jesus movement in the first century was divided into two camps—the nomistic camp that insisted that Gentiles become Jewish proselytes, and the anti-nomistic camp that propagated a Torah-free gospel. This course will examine the history of the hypothesis and the two evangelistic campaign hypotheses.
