199E The Nation of Edom: Pride Goes before Destruction
The Edomites were descendents of Esau, the twin brother of Jacob/Israel, and were constantly at war with Israel and Judah. Their territory, south and southeast of Judah, is rich in archaeological remains. This class will examine the history, geography, and archaeology of the Edomites and their territory. Special attention will be given to the Biblical text, starting in Genesis, for the conflict between Israel/Judah and Edom. This conflict will be traced through Biblical history up until the time of the Lord Jesus and the destruction of Herod’s Temple when the Edomites/Idumeans are removed from the stage of history.
